I've heard Alex Kidd is good but I hear so little as to what is genuinely a good game to play on SMS.

Pretty sure the original Sonic also came out on SMS.

    That's all I got Smile

The Master System has quite a few games that are well worth your time.

    - Shinobi
    - Wonder Boy and the Dragon's Trap
    - Zillion
    - Miracle Warriors
    - Phantasy Star
    - Action Fighter
    - Phantasy Zone
    - Golden Axe Warrior
    - Alex Kidd
    - Double Dragon

There's plenty of other games worth playing too, those are just the first to come to mind.

    - Sonic the Hedgehog
    - Shining Force (AWESOME Tactical RPG Razz )

When I got the SMS a friend of mine let me borrow Alex Kidd. That Rock-Paper-Scissors minigame still haunts my dreams. Fun game though.

I also had a game that was based around McDonald's, it was a platformer with 2 kids armed with guns that shot the "M" from McDonald's, but can't remember the name.

It was surprisingly fun. And addictive. And hard as nails.

How about some Golden Axe Warrior. It was made, pretty much, to capitalize on the popularity of Zelda ... but it's a decent enough game in its own right.

    Personal Favorites:

Maze Hunter 3D (If you can get some Sega Scope 3D glasses and card converter to hook them up)
    Space Harrier 3D
    Zaxxon 3D

    Golden Axe Warrior (Zelda-esque)
    Zillion (Metroid-esque)
Wonder Boy in Monster Land (Platformer)
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (Platformer)
The Ninja (Fun Arcade Port of Sega Ninja)
Time Soldiers (Another Fun Arcade Port)
Phantasy Star (Very good 8-bit JRPG)
Miracle Warriors (Decent 8-bit JRPG, but the limited world map view can get annoying)
Fantasy Zone (Fun little space ship shooter with day-glow colors and anamorphic whatnot)
    After Burner (Fun Arcade Port)
Space Harrier (I love it but there's a lot of better ports out there, like the 32X version)
Rastan (Fun platformer/hack'n'slash Arcade Port - I think it's really freaking difficult though)

I also really like to pick up the play the traditional arcade style games Ghost House and Teddy Boy, which were on the SMS cards instead of cartridges.

The Sonic games on the SMS were all at least decent, if you ever played a sonic on the Game Gear, it's pretty much the same as those, except for some very very minor differences.

They play really well, and when you just want a quick sonic fix and don't want to sit for hours, I'd definitely recommend them!

I remember a game where you were a penguin, and you had to push an egg down to the bottom of the level without breaking it. It was a puzzle game I think. Pretty fun, though I can't remember the name...even though I'm sure it was something incredibly simplistic like "egg drop".

It was called "Penguin Land," and I have to agree that it was a pretty fun puzzle game. It's actually one I've been meaning to pick up.

Penguin land! Thanks Czernobog! I think I need to scour the internet for a working Master System, because I'm really in the mood to play it again.

No problem! A decent condition Master System shouldn't be too hard too find. I would say try to pay less than fifty for a model one with power and A/V cables if you can. I see people ask more than that, but you should be able to find one for a pretty reasonable price without too much hassle. I just recommend the first model because it has the card slot for the handful of card games (and if you manage to get the 3D glasses you need it). An old SMS I picked up on a whim actually really got me into retro collecting so I have sort of a soft spot for it even without having any nostalgia attached.
